If you like to walk, cycle, ride your horse, or just get away from the busy, bustling roads in the city, check out the Greenways of West Yorkshire for great scenery and a safe journey.
Not so long ago, I headed out on my bike for a little exercise, and hopefully some photo opportunities, little did I know I would discover what appears to be a secret network of paths and cycleways dedicated to those who prefer to travel by any means other than an automobile.
The Spen Valley Greenway has been around for years, and in the past, I have used it for leisurely walks to and from local family residences in Dewsbury and Heckmondwike, and on this occasion, I was on two wheels and ready to see where it would take me, knowing that it stretched from Bradford to Ravensthorpe.
What I discovered, after heading to Bradford and back was a path that lead elsewhere, off the Spen Valley Greenway and onto another unknown Greenway, the Calder Valley Greenway. Where would it lead? Where would the adventure end?
Huddersfield is the answer to both questions.
A secret network of paths where you can cycle freely, not worrying about any fast moving metallic machines that can crush you at 40mph, in the blink of an eye.
At the end of the day I had traveled 25 miles, seen things I never knew were there and taken a handful of photos to be proud of.
I totally recommend the Greenways of West Yorkshire.
