Traveling to Naga City in Rainy Weather

A tourist destination way on the outskirts south of Luzon, still reachable by land through a long bus ride, is Naga City in the province of Camarines Sur. I recently got the chance to travel to the local home of the popular water sport, wakeboarding, as well as the popular island where the Survivor series was shot: Caramoan. Unfortunately, due to the rainy weather, I only got to one of them.

The Camsur Watersports Complex (CWC) is the place to be for those who want to try out wakeboarding. It has a facility with machine operated cables and man-made lakes for extreme sports enthusiasts. Also, this is where they hold the annual Iron Man Triathlon Series here in the Philippines.

As adventurous as I am, I didn’t pack too much guts on this trip (blame it on my deformed right clavicle) and wasn’t able to try wakeboarding. Nevertheless, I enjoyed swimming and sunbathing in the complex and got the chance to somewhat get a mild tan, thanks to the short-period sunlight. I also had a good bite of the delectable Bicol Express/Laing Pizza at their restaurant.

Another popular destination known to locals of Naga City is a relaxing escape near the foot of the dormant volcano, Mt. Isarog. What else can you expect from something near a volcano but a hot spring resort? There are a number of resorts going to the area but Panicuason Hot Spring Resort is well known among many. The resort is located in Brgy. Panicuason, going uphill. The best way to go there is by means of a private vehicle or motorbike.

Entering the resort and reaching the pool area is an adventure in itself should you choose to take that 1.3 km stroll up and downhill; a motorbike service to the resort proper is also available for customers. Since we chose to take a walk in the rain, we got the chance to spot some good views in the area as well as an up close look at the water rushing downstream from the mountains. The resort has a number of pools with different depths and temperatures. At that time, only 4 hot spring pools were open, which were good enough since there were less than 10 people in the resort due to the stormy weather.

Taking a dip is very relaxing, hearing the sound of the rushing water beside the pool and a peaceful view of the mountains. I must say Panicuason Hot Spring Resort is a versatile location for any weather condition.

Traveling around Naga City can be a breeze as there are a lot of means of transportation that can take you around. For those on a tight budget, don’t take a taxi! Buses, jeepneys, and trikes can take you to places at a way cheaper price. Walking around town can be rewarding as well.
