Out to Sea: Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth

If you want to do some discount shopping at a UK location with a great sea view, then I really suggest you go down to Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth.

Gunwharf Quays is a great shopping area in Portsmouth with lots and lots of outlet shops so it is good for a bargain or two. The nicest thing about it however, is its close proximity to the Quays where I could (and often have) spend a couple of hours watching the boats go by and enjoy the sounds of the sea.

When we last visited, they did a demonstration of firing the cannon and then the private ship The Leander pulled up into the harbour with someone famous inside. We are not sure who it was as the security people were not allowed to tell anybody but we liked to pretend it was someone royal!

If you want to get an even better vantage point to look out across the water then it is well worth paying a fee to go up the Spinnaker Tower. It is an amazing structure standing right at the front of the quay and looking like a ship’s sail (hence the name). From up there, you can see for miles and miles, especially on a clear day and the views are just stunning. Once up there, you can also walk over a piece of reinforced glass and look down at all the tiny people 170 metres below.
