New York City as viewed by Dasha, the miniature dachshund.
Woof and hello! My name is Dasha and I’m a 1-year-old mini sausage dog who was born in Nebraska and is now living in the West Village of New York City. I was also voted the second cutest pup in this year’s Brooklyn Mutt Show.
I’ve got a tough life. After waking up my mum and dad, I like to get them to take me for a walk. It’s pretty tough having to hold it in all night so I’m keen to get out the door as soon as possible. I will generally walk in the opposite direction than them. Why? Cause I can. Also, if there is anything on the ground which remotely smells good I’m guaranteed to try and eat it, especially if it’s chicken bones.
I’m a social dog but I’ve mastered a technique to get extra attention. I’ll go up to other dogs to say ‘hello’ and then wander over to their owners and sit in front of them waiting for them to give me a scratch on the belly. Works every time.
I get two square meals a day and plan to become a dog toy tester when I grow up. Nothing lasts much longer than half an hour once I get my teeth into it. When I’m not eating, sleeping, playing, getting into the dirty laundry basket or peeing, I generally like to hang out on the couch.
I really love wandering round the West Village of New York. It’s such a great spot to live and with 300,000 other dogs in Manhattan, I’m never short of a mate to play with. My favourite dog run is at Washington Square Park and I take great pride in getting as dirty as possible and rolling in other dogs’ poop. Sometimes I’ll walk all the way over to Tompkin’s Square Park as they also have a really nice dog run. All in all, I love this city and if you ever see me then please come over and say ‘hi’. I promise I won’t bite.
