From the quaint little outdoor shopping center to the rocking outdoor amphitheater, the Old Mill District in Bend, Oregon is the perfect place to spend a summer day.
If it wasn’t for my girlfriend purchasing tickets to see Ween at the Les Scwab Amphitheater, I doubt I would have ever visited Bend. Luckily, we had the experience of going because it turns out, Bend is a charming city. Especially the Old Mill District, the area where I spent the majority of my time while in Bend.
The Old Mill District is basically split up into three parts: an outdoor shopping center that features many fun little shops as well as a sixteen screen cinema and an art gallery, the Deschuttes River and Riverbend Park, and the Les Schwab Amphitheater. While the shopping center was nice, a quick stroll through it was enough to satisfy this cash-strapped Lomographer. My first real destination was the river!
The first thing you’ll notice when you come to this calm stretch of water flowing through the middle of the district is all the people floating on it. Whether it was on a kayak, an innertube, or a group of air-mattresses linked together by a sprawling mass of people, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. And how I wished I could have been doing the same, but I had somewhere to be: concert time!
While I may not have the most informed opinion on concert venues (this was only my second concert, first one outdoors) the Les Schwab Amphitheater was amazing. Located on the Deschuttes River, it was just plain beautiful. The perfect place to see one of my favorite bands!
Let’s just say one word about Ween: Awesome! And this concert totally lived up to that reputation. If anyone ever has the opportunity to see them they totally should.
So if you’re ever taking a trip through Oregon, Bend and the Old Mill District is a great stop. And hopefully you’d be lucky enough to catch an amazing concert!
