Draždiak: Swan Lake in Bratislava

A tip on where to go on a nice sunny day in Bratislava.

Draždiak, a natural swimming place, is located in Petržalka (the largest housing settlement in Slovakia and the largest district of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia). Its history goes back to the beginning of the 80s when it was created as a result of gravel mining. Its water surface covers an area of 13 hectares.

I used to spend a lot of time there as a child, especially during winter as it always used to be a great spot for ice-skating. Nowadays, it’s popular mainly during the hot summer days since it offers not only opportunities for swimming but also for additional summer sports, such as beach volleyball. There are several restaurants in the area where you can have fish, pizza etc. or just some cold beer.

My favourite thing about Draždiak are the swans. Some of them stay there all year round, some are just staying for the summer. This year I’ve also spotted a swan family with seven cute little cygnets.

I haven’t been there for quite a long time, so it was nice to go there for a short lomowalk. I also took my grandpa’s Voigtländer with me:

And my Fisheye No.2:

Fisheye No. 2 has a 170-degree wide angle view and stunning barrel distortion. Now with a hotshoe and multiple and long exposure capabilities, the world’s greatest compact Fisheye camera is now more amazing than you ever thought possible! Available in different colours and special designs.
