Living in Houston, you would need an escape every once in awhile, well head down south for a beach party!
Ok, I’ll be honest, Galveston Beach is nowhere near the prettiest beach in the world, or the country, but for the state of Texas, it’ll have to do. There aren’t any blue or turquoise waters, no white sands, but there is plenty of sun and blue skies.
I am a Texan boy, born and raised, and I have plenty of memories of going down to the beach when I was younger. I even developed some when I got older. And while it’s not what I can call a postcard photo op, it’s still good enough for me. The water is still cool and the sun nice and bright, with a few good friends and a couple of cold drinks in a cooler, it’s perfect for a nice afternoon away from the daily grind of the city. And the best way to capture this fine day under the sun….well, with your lomography cameras of course!
About a year ago on summer break, my friends and I took a day trip down to the beach. From where I live in Houston, it takes about an hour-and-a-half drive and most of that is just getting through the city. It was probably one of my most memorable and successful trips I’ve ever been on with my friends ( I say that because most trips we all plan, someone either backs out, or we all just can’t get together at the right time, but this didn’t happen on this trip). All we did was sit on the sand, talk, throw the frisbee around and hung out in the water. A peaceful day indeed!
Another great thing to do towards Galveston, is that if you grab some chicken legs at the grocery store, tie some sting on it and go east towards Louisiana, you’ll find some nice areas to go crabbing. Just toss your chicken legs in the water and you can catch enough crabs for dinner that evening!
So if you are in need of an escape from the city of Houston, just head south and you’ll find what you’re looking for, especially through the lens of your lomo camera.
