This is a review of one of my favourite restaurants in Leeds - La Cafetiere on Hyde Park Corner. Mmm...
I seem to go to this place more often in the summer. Maybe because of the nice seating out on the street which makes me feel like I am on holiday when the sun is shining or maybe because the damp of winter turns me into a bit of a recluse.
It is a Mediterranean cafe so it is not too fancy and the menu is quite basic. They do however, have meals ranging in price from around £4 up to £10 so the price reflects the cafe’s style. The staff who work in there are really friendly and in the years I have lived here, the main chefs seem to have remained the same throughout.
My favourite meal (which you can see a blurry photo of up top) is the Kofta. It comes as either lamb, chicken or vege (lamb is the best!) and is served with pita, homemade humus, salsa, and a dressed salad and all of it complements each other perfectly. It is also really, really filling and great value for money which is surprising as often things like these are less so.
I also think the interior of this place is perfect. Some might say it is a bit dingy but I would describe it as mood-lighting more that anything. The ceiling has all the zodiac signs illustrated on it in purple and the cafe is lit mainly with huge candles. The wax from which have spilled over during the years and now makes quite a unique feature in every corner.
I can’t recommend this place highly enough and would encourage any visitor to Leeds to give it a try. It really does have something for everyone, vegetarians in particular! You will find it right on Hyde Park corner in Leeds LS6.
