Have You Been to Scarborough Fair?

In the summer, my favourite place to escape from the city is the beach, and Scarborough is the one of many perfect getaway destinations in the north of England.

Scarborough is one of the most popular sea towns along the Yorkshire coastline and claims to be Britain’s ‘first ever sea resort’ with tourists visiting the town for the past 300 years.

It was in the late 1800s that Scarborough really started to grow with the building of Scarborough Cliff Bridge in 1827 and the Railway Station opening in 1845 bringing visitors from Malton and York. Only 20 years later, the Grand Hotel was built – one of the first purpose-built holiday hotels in Europe, which is still open today and a centerpiece along the Scarborough Coastline.

Aside from a rich history, including a castle, Scarborough also has two bays, including a beautiful beach and harbour which is always busy as the bustling town centre with great shops, a fascinating underground market (which I highly recommend a visit to), and lots of lovely cafes to sit and enjoy a nice cup of tea outside.
