Hyde Park, London

Hyde Park, a central London sanctuary that allows you to get away from city life and take a relaxing stroll amongst stunning greenery.

Hyde Park is one of the largest parks in Central London. Covering around 350 acres, it is the perfect place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city living.

The perfect Lomography haven, Hyde Park is lusciously green and full of pesky little squirrels and beautiful plants to photograph.

Hyde Park is divided into two by the Serpentine, a huge, artificial lake where you can go boating, hire a pedalo or take a swim from the southern banks Lido in the summer months.

The Serpentine Bridge marks the start of Kensington Gardens where you can sit by the fountains in the Italian Garden and watch the birds take a cooling dip.

Strolling through the park, it is often easy to forget that you are in the city and from certain places you can’t see any buildings creating the illusion you are out in the countryside.

The park is famous for hosting concerts such as Live 8 and Proms in the Park. On the day we visited, March 26th 2011, a large anti-cuts protest was taking place in the park and there were around 400,000 people campaigning.

Despite this, there were still vast areas of the park which were quiet due to its huge size and we enjoyed climbing the trees and strolling down by the Serpentine in the spring sunshine.

Hyde Park can be easily accessed from five London Underground stations, they are:

Queensway (Central Line)
Lancaster Gate (Central Line)
Marble Arch (Central Line)
Hyde Park Corner (Piccadilly Line)
Knightsbridge (Piccadilly Line)

So next time you find yourself in the big city why not escape and unwind in Hyde Park!
