The Eiffel Tower might be Paris' most popular attraction, but I've always preferred the park below.
The Parc du Champs de Mars is the huge lawn in the shadows of the Eiffel Tower and it’s the perfect place to have a picnic, read a book, or take a nap. While the tower might have incredible views of the city, the park has a pretty nice view itself – of the Eiffel Tower.
The park hosts playgrounds, a marionette theater, a cafe, as well as concerts from time to time, but I like it for it’s simplicity.
In the 1500s, the space was a vineyard and vegetable garden. After that it was used for battle training by the military. Before it became a public park, it was also a horse track.
Over the years, the park has had many identities, but I think I like ‘pretty grassy place to relax’ the best. And unlike the tower itself, there are no lines, and it’s free!
