Chinese Theme Park: Haw Par Villa

Being the one and only Chinese mythological theme park in Singapore, The Haw Par Villa which was formerly called Tiger Balm Garden was built in the 1937 by Aw Boon Haw. It was quite popular back in the 1990s however the prices of the entrance fee which was rather steep, eventually discourage the public from revisiting the park.

The park is filled with lots of statues depicting scenes from the Chinese folklore and legends. A rather interesting sight I would say. As there are too many statues, some unlucky ones are abandoned at the backyard of Haw Par Villa which is out of sight. But not to worry, as the park is filled with so much to see that you can spend a whole afternoon there.

Do not forget to visit the most well known attraction: Ten Courts of Hell. It displayed gruesome depictions of hell which used to be set inside a 60m long dragon. However, the dragon is being removed. Do not give this place a miss although it’s creepy.

However, it is quite sad that the once popular theme park is in a rundown state. Nonetheless, it is still a place worth visiting. Those who are keen to the park, it is located along Pasir Panjang Road. The admittance is free daily and the operating hours are from 9am to 7pm.
