Walking into Economy Candy is sort of like walking into Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory but on the Lower East Side, and in real life.

Economy Candy is, without a doubt, the best candy store in New York City. It’s been in the same location on Rivington Street since it opened in 1937. Practically every inch of the store is completely covered in candy and the whole place smells delicious. The space is pretty small for the amount of stuff they have packed in there, but that just adds to its beauty. It’s hard to resist filling up a bag with the cheap (but still delicious) bulk candy bins, but not as hard as resisting the color coded M&Ms and jelly beans, they even have a ‘shop by color’ option on their website.

In addition to the cheap stuff and old fashioned style candy, they also have fancier chocolates and shelves of imported candy that are usually only available overseas. They’re also known for their extensive assortment of dried fruit and nuts, though I usually just go for the candy.

Throughout the store, there are reminders of the past, like the antique gum ball machines that line the wall.

Though it’s not nearly as good as going to the store and experiencing it in person, they have an online store so you can still get your candy fix wherever you are.

I love this place, sadly have only been there twice but it is pretty much only candy so I don't really want to completely rot out my teeth. I never was in there when the place was that empty though.
