East Hampton, My Favorite Spot to Get Some Sun

During the summer, one of my favorite places to get some sun is East Hampton on Long Island.

East Hampton is about 100 miles from New York City, and a quick 2-hour trip by bus or by car (unless it’s a busy day, in which case it can take up to 4 hours!). You can also take the Long Island Rail Road, which gets you there in about 2.5 hours.

Once you’re there, it’s a quiet town, with a lot of shops around Main Street, and great beaches. On summer weekends, the beaches fill up fast, so you have to get there early to ensure your prime sun-soaking spot.

If the beach is too far to walk to and you don’t have a car, you can always rent a bike and sun on the go (just watch out for deer on the roads!). Sometimes the nicest sunning-locations are the hidden ones, found through exploring.

During the week, the crowd thins out as most people go back to the city to work, which leaves the beaches mostly empty for you to hog up as much sand as you like. In some secluded spots, there aren’t even any other people, just you and some friendly seagulls.

If you get tired of the beach (or maybe too sandy), you can always get some sun as you sip local wine from one of the 50 vineyards on Long Island. Most have tasting appointments and tours where you can wander through the vineyards and sneak a few grapes when nobody’s looking.

After relaxing on the clean, sunny beaches, and warm pools, it’s hard to go back to the busy city!
