Wan Fo Tien Temple, Kuantan: Wesak Day

Wesak Day is one of the important days for Buddhists which is celebrated around May. It marks three momentous events in Buddha’s life – his birthday, enlightenment, and achievement of Nirvana. Every year, Pahang Buddhist Association (PBA) organizes a series of activities at the Wan Fo Tien Temple.

The program started with flags rising in front of the temple. After that, it followed by chanting in Pali, Dharma talks by Ven Ji Xing, chanting to Triratna in Chinese. The ceremony was lead by Ven Ji Xing and two reverends from Sri Lanka. A lot of Buddhists and visitors came to Wan Fo Tien Temple to take part in the event.

The bathing of the Buddha statue was done for the whole day. Bathing the statue of Buddha with fragrant water is to attain the purity of their karmas, which is body, speech, and mind; in the past, present and future.

Self-service vegetarian lunch was available for visitors at the ground floor. To serve more than thousands of people, the kitchen was busy from early in the morning. About 100 volunteers were helping in the kitchen to wash and cut the fruits and vegetables, some of them were cooking and seasoning, some of them were cleaning and preparing. Everyone in the kitchen was in a busy mode.

Besides that, there was a musical performance at the outdoor garden. Different kinds of exhibition booths can be found at the ground floor. Painting, handicrafts, plants, food and drinks were selling for charity.

Activities will be organized every year during Wesak Day at Wan Fo Tien Temple in Kuantan. All are welcome to join. Peace.
