The Frankfurt Dippemess is the biggest amusement park and convention center in the Rhein-Main area. For a full 3 weeks in springtime and 2 weeks in autumn, and a few days spread out over the summer, it is the biggest family attraction in the region!
The history of the Dippemess dates back to the 14th century, when it was called the Mainmess (after the river Main). It was mainly a convention center for mobile retail: sellers from all around the region would come here to present their products, from cooking pots to oriental spices.
Currently, it is considered a carnival or a family festival. Of course there are still quite a few retailers. However, they currently take up maybe 10% of the territory dedicated to this event. The things you may buy include oriental spices, African wooden dolls as decorations, cooking pots, sunglasses, and LOTS of candy!
The other 90% of the territory are dedicated to amusement rides:
There are tons of different stuff – roller coasters, water slides, rides for kids, a lot of adrenaline boosters like the Free Fall. The entrance to the funfair is free, the rides cost between 1 to 3 euros. Thursdays are usually “Family Days” when all rides are at 50% off!
Everybody who went to such a funfair knows how many kids are usually there – no wonder, there’s so many colors, there’s so many rides, there’s just SO much FUN! It is also an opportunity for your parents to relax: just let the kids enjoy the rides, sit back, and enjoy the sun.
Perhaps this doesn’t fit the request “Places to take your mom”.. it more fits the request “Places your mom can take YOU”. ;) But hey, everybody knows moms who enjoy roller coasters – so give it a try, take your mom to a funfair, you might have a lot of child-mother bonding. ;)
This festival takes place on the “Eissporthalle Festplatz”, to be reached with U6 metro line at the stop “Eissporthalle”
