On my last visit to Turkey, I decided to travel by train instead of the plane. Forty-eight hours has passed leaving me with lots of impressive pictures!
The people who travel to Turkey are mostly taking the bus or the plane – I decided to take the train for going east!
There are several trains starting from the Istanbul train station Haydarpasa – one of the most beautiful train stations in the world.
You can reach nearly every bigger city in Turkey by train. The journey is very relaxed instead of being in a hurry or sitting on uncomfortable plane seats!
We decided to travel east, to Hasankeyf – a world culture heritage site and two very old cities: Midyat and Mardin. The trip took us nearly 48 hours – which was beautiful. We haven’t seen each other for a while, so we had lots of time to talk and to watch the landscape passing by!
The compartments had everything we needed: two big seats, two beds, a ladder to climb up into your bed, a basin and even a minibar. ;D
There were two public toilets and also a shower which you are free to use. The train was completely empty and we were the only passengers – so everything was clean and the only noise we heard was the sound of the train!
On the first day, the train passed by a landscape full of fields and your eyes were able to see a view that stretches from miles away. When we woke up on the second day, we were right between two big snowy mountains; our journey took us through millions of fruit trees which were in season.
I loved this time and will do it again – definitely!
