The Festival Season in Holland Begins with Paaspop!

What better way to begin the festival season than with the Paaspop in Schijndel, The Netherlands. Paaspop is a 3-day festival (22nd -24th April) and has 10 circus tents with national and international acts. Dance, pop, rock and theater are combined into 3 days of awesome partying!

Paaspop’s location is at the Molenheide where cows, horses and other animals can normally run around on the large grasslands. Once a year, the animals have to make space for the festival during the Easter weekend break in Schijndel, near s-Hertogenbosch in Holland.

Paaspop started out as a two-day festival, but as of 2011, they added an extra day to it, which attracted more people than it ever had before (41,000)! The festival area is greatly decorated with lots of lights and big circus tents with various themes for each stage. The overall atmosphere is really good, everyone is just enjoying all of it. Especially during this year, because there was a lot of sun! As this is still in Holland, you may never really know if the weather will be good or bad.

The festival officially opens on Friday in the afternoon and ends on Sunday at midnight. Because the festival is located on a grassland, there are several houses around it so the official end time on the festival ground is 2 in the morning. Of course you can just pay a visit to the performing DJ in a small party tent on one of the camping areas!

Even though it is a Dutch festival, there are several international acts coming from the USA, Italy, Belgium, Norway, Germany, Canada, Sweden, and the UK. So what kind of music can you expect? There are about 150 acts to watch, for instance: Golden Earing, Dropkick Murphy’s, Legion of The Damned, Sick Of It All, Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77, Peter Pan Speedrock, Dr. Lektroluv, Memphis Maniacs, Tiga, Adam Beyer, Danko Jones, Alain Clark and lots of more great acts! As you can see there is something to see for everyone.

To get to the festival you can easily take the train to s-Hertogenbosch and take a bus all the way to the festival in Schijndel. Or if you are heavily packed, just come by car or even come with your caravan! Lots of space for your car to park on ‘Boer Anton’ (farmer Anton) grassland and your caravan can be placed on the specific caravan area on the camp site.

This was my second festival experience and I loved it. I went with my boyfriend @ismikk and two friends of ours, we had tickets for only two days, but we decided to be there on Friday night to get a good spot for our tents. We chose these dates of the festival, because there were going to be some artists that we knew and really wanted to see. But also because this festival is the beginning of all festivals and the weather reports said that it was going to be a hot weekend break with a lot of sun!

If you are in Holland during the Easter weekend break, have a look at Paaspop Festival and you can enjoy the best opening of the festival season!
