Meanwood Valley Urban Farm

Having lived just half a mile from MVUF for almost 3 years, I decided it was time to pay it a visit and I was not disappointed.

“Meanwood Valley Urban Farm, a registered charity, was established in 1980 to provide services to inner city communities. From the farm’s humble beginnings operating from two old caravans, it has grown into a 24-acre site. It’s not only a working farm with a wide variety of animals, but also a major centre for community and environmental work.”

This is a lovely little place not far outside of Leeds city centre located on Meanwood Road, and as I have lived just off this road for 3 years I decided it was time for a visit. I am glad that we went in spring as they had a lot of baby animals. At only £1 to get in and then 50p for a bag of feeds so you can hand feed the animals it is a real bargain, and I would recommend taking families, small children or even your partner there. They have ducks, chickens, cows, rabbits, guinea pigs (my fave), rabbits, donkeys, goats, pigs, sheep, and even worms!

They also have a lovely cafe and shop where they sell plants they have grown and eggs from their chickens (which are just gorgeous and again an excellent price). What I love most about the farm is that for all the charity work and community projects they are involved in, they do so much for the local Leeds community and yet still keep their prices low so that nobody is excluded from participating.
My favourite part though was definitely feeding the animals as they were so lovely, even if the rams did get a bit greedy and freaked me out!
