Stroll in the Park Under the Sun

Sun shining outside? What are you waiting for? Go gear up with your lomo cameras 'coz this is the best time to appreciate nature! Take a stroll at a nearby (or even a faraway) park...smell the flowers, meet new friends, just make sure this day is not put to waste just by staying inside your air-conditioned room. Document every happening!

It was my first time to go to Mindanao and I seized this opportunity to visit the famous Maria Cristina Falls that I used to see only in my Geography and History books. Later did I know that NPC made it a project to build an eco-adventure park around the foot of this majestic falls which is Iligan’s first.

NPC Nature’s Park is located within an 8-hectare area inside the Hydroelectric Power Plant Complex in Fuentes, Maria Cristina. The first of such a facility from the Napocor Plant Corporation (NPC) in the Mindanao region. It boasts of attractions such as a zip line, ostriches, a butterfly garden, a lagoon and best of all, a famous landmark, the Maria Cristina Falls. It was opened to the public on July 9, 2010 with goals of bringing additional revenue in recovering the project cost, encouraging more tourists to visit the place and see the Maria Cristina Falls and making people aware of the hydro power operations. (Currently, the falls is the primary source of power for the city’s industries). The park is well-constructed to protect and preserve the environment that is why minimal fees are charged to every visitor just sustaining its operation. Entrance fee for adults is only P30 pesos and for children, students and senior citizens P20. There is an option to ride a shuttle bus to the plant for only P10, otherwise, you can just walk the 800-meter path to reach the park. Better if you have your own car.

The park is open to the public daily from 9:00am to 4:00pm except when NPC issues an advisory of non-admittance. Every tourist or local will enjoy this place. It is an eco-park with lots of facilities and activities to choose from.

For inquiries, you may contact NPC Maria Cristina, Iligan City at (063) 223 4604 or the City Tourism Office at Bahay Salakot, Buhanginan Hills, Pala-o, Iligan City (063) 221 3426.

Tip:The park is at high security. Every visitor has to fill out a form and must present a valid I.D.

I'm nowhere near this park, but it sounds nice. It also makes me think I should indeed go out now, instead of sitting on my couch being sucked in by all these beautiful Lomo images :)
