Museum for Photography Berlin - Helmut Newton Foundation

Beautiful women, nudity, old cameras and lots of Helmut Newton to see at the Museum of Photography in Berlin.

Alongside the permanent exhibition “Helmut Newton’s Private Property” and the exhibitions on the work of Newton and his companions, there are additional exhibits which are sometimes more and sometimes less than interesting to see.

On the ground floor is a very personal exhibition of Helmut Newton’s life and some of his work. Personal items such as letters, photos, cameras, and letters of condolence from all over the world, after his accidental death in 2004 documenting various stages of Newton’s life. Furthermore, you should take your time to watch the various videos, such as one showing Helmut Newton at work.

On 26.05.2010 the magnificent Imperial Hall on the 2nd floor was opened. Since then, another player has attached itself to the Museum for Photography: the photography collection of the Kunstbibliothek.

There is a museum shop which has a great selection of books, especially in the field of fashion photography. Unfortunately you cannot photograph inside the museum, you shouldn’t even try…there are many museum curators, mindful, that this prohibition is respected. Hence, I only used my camera just outside the museum and on the toilet. ;-)

If you are interested in photography and, in particular, Helmut Newton, you should absolutely visit the museum!
