Quirky Facts About London #1

Did you know that the only road in the UK where you are actually required to drive on the 'wrong' side, is in London?

Have you ever walked pass The Savoy Hotel on Strand and thought, something is weird but you couldn’t really detect what it was?

It is because the Savoy Court of the famous Savoy Hotel on Strand is the only road in the UK where vehicles are actually required to drive on the right! I always thought driving on the left in the UK is a general rule, but no, there is an exception! As Wikipedia states, this is a holdover from the good old times where a driver of the original hackney carriages would reach his arm out of the driver’s door window to open the passenger’s door, without getting out of the cab himself.

So next time you head to The Savoy for some yummy afternoon tea, have a look for yourself.

@kylewis: no, these were not requested, just something I came across and thought it's interesting and maybe suitable for the book...
