Almost a year ago, at the beginning of spring, we made a short trip to Sacrow. A small sleepy town in Brandenburg, in the triangle of Potsdam and Berlin. We brought along a small picnic basket, a pot of coffee, and my Canon AE-1.

The castle was built in Sacrow in the year 1773. It was built for the Swedish Lieutenant General Johann Ludwig von Hordt. The large-scale park is inviting for a stroll and relaxation. Next to the walking trails, there are flowers surrounding the rhododendron. Personally, I love the “noise” from the songbirds from the first awakening of spring.

After a while, one then arrives at the main attraction: The Church of the Redeemer in Sacrow.

Many of you already know this place from the film “Rabbit Without Ears”. It is the place where Nora Tschirner confesses her love to Til and he hears the key parts only to be overpowered by the ships’ sirens. The church was built in 1844 as a sacred building – Italian style with a free standing bell tower similar to those in Pisa.

Around the church is a beautiful view over the Havelland landscape, for example, the Glienicker Bridge, (also called Agent’s Bridge), which connects Berlin and Potsdam. Peacock Island can also be seen from here.

So if you want to escape the hectic times in Berlin, you will find here a lovely piece of earth. Sacrow is also reachable with the ferry, e.g. Berlin/ Wannsee and Potsdam.
