I Found Another Hill in Singapore

Do you always hear your friends complain about how small Singapore is? Stop whining and start exploring! There is still a lot more undiscovered places for you to see, look, and enjoy in our tiny sunny island. And I have found my beloved Ann Siang Hill.

I don’t want my life to revolve around work 24/7. I need a life and Lomography is the perfect companion. A group of friends and I started our own Lomo group and we call ourselves the Sun Waits For No Man (SWFNM). It is simply because Lomo needs sun to shoot good photos.

So on one of our regular weekend gatherings, we decided to explore this “hill” in Singapore, the Ann Siang Hill. I have been there once for dinner and I find the place very unique. It is a small and cosy area tucked in the corner of Chinatown, away from the traffic. Its distinctive flare of restaurants, pubs and shop houses draw me to it dearly.

On this hot and sunny day, I decided to start a mini project of my own. I am going to take all Splitzer shots at Ann Siang Hill. I know Lomo is all about no boundaries and being limitless. But having this mini project forces myself to think out of the box and adds on to the anticipation and mystery of how my photos will turn out. At the end of the day, most or rather all the photos surprised me pleasantly.

It was a joy walking down the lanes. Looking at patrons lazing their weekends away outside the restaurants, people watching. Walking over the remains of the crazy party on the night before outside the pubs. Stepping inside an indie bookstore and flipping through the out-of-the world books I have never seen before. Not forgetting there is a few shop houses that used to be the gathering venue for the Chinese clans or association meetings. And if you ever feel hungry, there is always k. ki round the corner.

There is so much to see and explore at Ann Siang Hill. So do find a day and make a trip down to Ann Siang Hill. I am sure it will captivate you in the same way it did me.
