London Hit List #11 Container City

Container City at Trinity Buoy Wharf in East London is a really exciting example of prefab architecture. Basically, they have put shipping containers together to create living spaces. I know, your first thought is probably “Shipping containers…really? Someone would want to live in one by choice?!”, but I can honestly say that I would! How they were put together created a really dynamic structure! This is definitely not your typical semi-detached house. I think that it is a very interesting and exciting idea for affordable and quick-to-construct structures and I hope to see more examples popping up all over the place. It was pretty easy to find when you got off at East India (DLR) and there were loads of signs pointing the way towards Trinity Buoy Wharf.

I'd love to make a container home, it's earthquake-proof, involves recycling and less expensive than traditional homes :))) Check out this one in Quebec, the architects live in it http://tinyurl.com/kmgaup

I think that they are fantastic! I really can't understand why container homes aren't more widespread - I would love to build either a container home or a straw bale home!
