London Hit List #7 Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood
My favourite blue plaque simply states, “In this house the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was founded in 1848”. The house actually belonged to John Everett Millais, one of the three main founders. I love thinking of the amount of art and poetry associated with this single house. Whenever I walk by, I always think of Millais’ famous painting of Ophelia (at the Tate Britain and well worth a visit!) or Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s Proserpine (also in the Tate collection). I love all of London’s Blue Plaques but this one and others associated with art and literature are my favourites because I like to imagine all of the creativity witnessed by those walls.
