Bar Italia

London Hit List #16 Bar Italia

Bar Italia is a really cool little cafe in Soho with a vintage Italian feel…this is provably due to the fact that it was opened in the 40s by Italian immigrants, and has been in the same family ever since. I went on a very busy day – all the busier as it was gorgeously sunny and there were many people at their outside tables enjoying the nice weather. I like little places like Bar Italia – they definitely have a nice feel to them – not the cookie-cutter sterility of a chain cafe. I think that it is a great place to sit and enjoy vibrant Soho. Another cool thing is that in that same building, albeit in 1926 – slightly before Bar Italia’s time, was the first public demonstration of television in what was then John Logie Baird’s laboratory.
