Hula-hooping - London's Other Olympic Sport

2012 is a big year for sport in London, but there is a secret uprising coming from London's many parks and outdoor spaces. Beware the troupe of hula hoopers!

You may not be aware of it, but hula hooping is HUGE. Don’t think it’s just girls mucking around, this is SERIOUS. We’re talking hours of practice every week, increased muscular strength, dedication, injuries, flying hoops and broken bones. But yeah, it does look cooler than curling, and if you can master a few tricks you will be the most popular person at any party!

You can usually find a hooper in any park on a sunny day, or come along to the Horniman Gardens in Forest Hill, where there are a whole load of us that meet up to share skills and tricks. I challenge you to have a go – but if you’re not feeling brave enough it’ll certainly give you something to watch while having your picnic!

Haha amazing, is this part of the Horniman's museum? I used to go there when I was a kid.

@kylewis @atreyuthechild yep! the museum has really great gardens, with sections devoted to different parts of the world and exotic plants, and plenty of room for picnics!
