LCG: The Millennium Bridge in London

The second most famous bridge in London is definitely the beautiful, Millennium Bridge, also nicknamed as the "Wobbly Bridge".

It is the first bridge designed for pedestrians only in London, crossing the river Thames, connecting major tourist attractions such as : St. Paul’s Cathedral, City of London, and Tate Modern Gallery at Bankside.

The bridge offers an impressive panoramic view of the city, including a perfectly clear and fabulous view of St. Paul’s south facade, the Tate Modern art gallery, the Globe Theatre and you can even spot the Tower Bridge in the distance. It is a great place for a little break to enjoy the views, watch the birds, the boats, and the people passing by.

But the bridge got famous not only because of the great views and its beautiful design. When it first opened in June 2000, a huge amount of people crossed the bridge on the first day and unfortunately, under the heavy traffic, the bridge felt an uncomfortable swaying motion. The bridge was closed for modifications, reopened in 2002, and even though the wobble is gone, it will always be known as The Wobbly Bridge. Enjoy your visit!

It is accessible 24 hours a day.
Linking City of London, EC4 (North bank) and Bankside, SE1 (South bank)
Underground Stations:
Blackfriars or Mansion House (both Circle and District Line)
