Want to have an adventure-filled outing? Plan a trip to this castle…at night. No. I will not pay a visit to this castle at night. I'm afraid of the dark. But based on the rumors I've heard, this castle is really haunted, especially during night time.
In fact, there’s a team from a television show from Hong Kong ( THE UNBELIEVABLE – 怪談 ) who came here and experienced a very frightening supernatural incident. I dare not watch the show, I only heard it from some close friends who did watch it at the cinema.
The castle is actually located nearby my home back in my hometown. So one day while we were on the way to Cameron Highland, we planned to drop by and pay this mysterious castle a visit.
Kellie’s Castle is located near Batu Gajah, and is about a 20-minute drive from Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. It’s an unfinished castle, a ruined mansion, which was built by a Scottish planter named William Kellie Smith. There’s a very sad story about this castle and Smith’s family. Tragedies struck soon after the construction of the castle began. A lot of workers of Smith’s estate and the workers constructing Smith’s dream castle also became victims of the flu, thus, the castle was never completed.
Anyway, to me, this castle is totally different from what I heard, during the day time. It’s not scary at all. The sun shines so bright, and it’s a super HOT, sunny day. The castle is made from bricks and it’s a super cool place for shooting. We went around the castle, had some photo shoots, and read the stories about it. I left with a different perspective of this castle. I don’t know whether the ‘rumors’ about this castle are true or not, but to me, this castle looks kinda cool. I think it’s indeed a good place for some portraits or pre-wedding shots as well. BTW, it’s actually one of the settings in the 1999 film Anna and the King!
