The Serpentine Lake - A Place To Escape

If you are in need of a little breather from the concrete, steel and glass jungle that is London enjoy an oasis in the middle of London’s Hyde Park, The Serpentine.

The lake was created in 1730 and people have been swimming in these waters for hundreds of years. The swimming area, known as The Serpentine Lido, is at the south side and open in summer (June-Sep), although members may swim all year round and they even host a swimming competition every Christmas morning! If you’d go for a swim watch out for some odd company as ducks, geese and maybe even a swan might join you but don’t worry they’re all really friendly. On the northern side are rowing and paddle boats available for hire (Easter-October) or you could walk around the lake, stopping by one of the cafés for a little snack, having a picnic with family and friends, lying in the grass and watching the wildlife. It’s really a beautiful place to relax all year round.

Underground Stations:
Knightsbridge (Piccadilly line) or Lancaster Gate (Central line)
