(Requested Location: Chinese New Year): Celebration @ Chinatown!

For me, preparing for Chinese New Year is never complete without a visit to the famous Chinese New Year Bazaar at the historic Chinatown here in Singapore. Goodies on sale includes traditional Chinese food such as melon seeds, preserved meats and sausages, BBQ pork slices, and mandarin oranges. In recent years, vendors started bringing in Taiwanese jelly snacks that are also a big hit with Singaporeans.

For me, Chinese New Year preparation is never complete with out a visit to the famous Chinese New Year Bazaar at historic Chinatown. This has been an annual ritual for my family since I was a young boy. Going to the bazaar invokes a sense of excitement and adventure.

Other must-buy items are lucky bamboo plants, mini orange plants, and calligraphy paintings to decorate one’s house.

Besides shopping, the whole of Chinatown is nicely lit up with neon and LED lights. The Chinese Zodiac for 2011 is the Rabbit and hence, one can see a lot of Rabbit-themed decors around.

Although there are similar New Year bazaars in other parts of the city, they can’t compare to Chinatown’s bazaar in terms of its rich history and electrifying atmosphere!
