The Young and the Trendy

Just smell that creativity in the air. West Queen West is my go-to place when I’m in need of an artistic revival. Running from Bathurst to Gladstone Avenue, there is plenty to lay your eyes, hands, and taste buds on.

West Queen West is a hub of activity from morning to night. It’s a fairly laid back neighbourhood in terms of the crowd, perfect for some R&R. With over 300 of the city’s most creative businesses, you’ll come across some of the most unique finds in your lifetime. There’s plenty to feast your eyes on, whether it be the graffiti on the walls or the eclectic storefronts. You’ll definitely have to step out and use those lovely legs of yours to walk around, or you just might miss something.

Strolling along Queen and just past Trinity Bellwoods Park begins the contemporary art, boutiques, chic bars, and the young and the trendy. The MOCCA, Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, is just one of the plenty of independent galleries in the area, and get ready for it: it’s free! Amazing, right?

If you’re feeling hungry, check out Bar One, a retro-themed sit down to grab some brunch, pizza or pasta. The daily soup is always a winner here.

Shopping is definitely a treat here. There’s Crumpler, and Jacob and Sebastian, and Magic Pony, and Rotate This, and Polka Dot Kids. Haven’t heard of them? They’re just THAT unique.

Two of the greatest attractions here are The Drake and The Gladstone Hotel. These boutique hotels are unlike any other, and are far from your typical Sheraton or Marriott. Its experience is more architectural and cultural than anything else. If you’re looking for the full downtown urban treatment, this is it.

Don’t forget to visit the West Queen West strip the next time you’re in the area. It’ll be off the chain (as the young and trendy call it).
