Singapore Zoo (formerly known as the Singapore Zoological Gardens) is acclaimed as one of the world's most spectacular zoos and became the best tourist spot in Singapore since 1990.

From the minute visitors step into the Singapore Zoo, they are encompassed in an enchanting environment that promises the vicarious experience of walking amidst a tropical rain forest.

In the zoo, animal species which can be usually found in rain forests in Southeast Asian countries like the Sumatran orangutan, giraffe, white rhinoceros, zebra, banded mongoose, Asian elephant, Malayan tapir and many more like. polar bears, koala, kangaroos, camels, and penguins can be found in the zoo.

Singapore Zoo occupies 28 hectares and is located at the Upp Seletar Reservoir. The place is within Singapore’s heavily forested central catchment area. Therefore, it supplies a good and comfortable environment for the animals and keep away the noise from the city area.

Currently, the zoo holds four shows for all visitors. First is The “Rainforest Fights Back”, showed in the Shaw Amphitheatre. Actors and performers act alongside the animals (orangutans, lemurs, pea-fowls, otters and cockatiels). The show is about the native people and animals of the rain forest foiling a poacher who attempts to mow down the forest for further land development. The second show is the “Elephants at Work and Play”. The main character of this show is the Asian Elephant. The trainers instruct the elephants to transport logs and sometimes the elephants play jokes on their trainer. Third is the “Splash Safari”. Sea lions, seals and other aquatic mammals perform tricks, while pelicans demonstrate how they catch fish using their beaks, while manatees swim in the pond below. An audience is chosen during the show to throw the freebies in a distance towards the sea lion and she catches it with her mouth. Lastly is the “Animal Friends” show. The show features mostly domesticated animals such as dogs, mouse, cat and parrots. All these presentations happen at least twice daily. So don’t miss out on any of it.
