Boracay is Always a Good Idea

In the 1995 movie "Sabrina" the main character, upon being sent back to France, says, "Paris is always a good idea." This is exactly how I feel about Boracay. With fine white sand, clear blue waters, gorgeous weather, and an abundance of good-looking people all-year round, Boracay is the Philippines' paradise party capital.

To get to Boracay, one takes a boat ride off Caticlan port. The two popular ways to get to Caticlan is via airplane to Kalibo or Caticlan. If you opt to take the Kalibo route, you will need to take a 2-hour van ride to Caticlan. If you’re wondering why doesn’t everyone chooses the Caticlan route, planes to Caticlan are smaller due to the shorter runaway thus flights are normally full.

I normally have one scheduled trip to Boracay per year to either play or watch the annual ultimate frisbee beach tournament. Avid disc players from around the globe flock to Boracay to play disc in its fine white sand once a year, normally during the summer months (late March – Mid May). It’s an amazing weekend full of disc-playing, drinking and partying and just all-around fun!

Oh yeah, did I mention the awesome parties? People come to Boracay for its legendary parties. One should leave all thought of work or problems behind and just join in the fun-loving crowd that Boracay attracts. One bar, Cocomangas, is famous for its 15-shot-and-still-standing challenge. The Jungle Bar throws dusk-til-dawn full-moon parties. Summer Place is where everyone comes to dance. Dance the night away, make new friends, flirt with a hot stranger and just let loose after all that happens in Boracay, stays in Boracay. ;p

If you’re not much of a party animal, you can grab yourself a sun-chair, order some fresh fruit shakes and read your favorite book. Boracay offers other activities such as parasailing, skim boarding, paddle surfing, ATV rides up the mountain, reef walking among others.

While tricycles are abundant in the island, I always prefer to walk along the shoreline.

When it gets too hot, give in to the water’s siren song and take a dip in the cool, clear blue waters of the island.

Take pictures of the sun setting in the horizon. Boracay truly has breathtaking sunsets.

But don’t forget to stop and bask in the beauty of the island, because it truly is beautiful.

Writing this makes me want to book a ticket to paradise…. now! But I’ll have to wait til April to feel the Boracay sand under my feet once again. And I can’t hardly wait!
