La Costa Brava: Llançà

Without a doubt, Costa Brava (Brave Coast) takes its name from this area of the Catalan Coast where the Pyrenees sinks into the Mediterranean. Put on your best shoes, load your camera because we are going to take a walk where we don’t even know what we will find.

Placed north of “Cap de Creus”, the westernmost point of the Iberian Peninsula, we found this tourist village. The town center is not the nicest in the area in my opinion that could be the center of “Cadaqués” or “Port de la Selva”, but its beaches and coves attract many tourists every summer. Typical of this area, hit by the north wind are the rocky beaches and cliffs of vertigo.

My recommendation is to visit this area after or before the summer tourist season and take a walk or hike by walkways (camins de ronda) that run along the coast. It is a pleasure to watch a sea storm from the top of a cliff, going down through old stairs with wrought iron railings to former private coves or enter bunkers of the old line of defense that Franco had built along the Pyrenees.
