MV Rus from Russia to Japan by Ship

If you are in Vladivostok and you like a sea trip, it's a good opportunity to take a ferry from Russia (Vladivostok) to Japan (Fushiki).

After a 3.5 days trip with the trans-Siberian-railway from Irkutsk to Vladivostok, there is nothing better than to take a ship to Japan. That’s what we did last summer. There is a weekly ferry, the MV “Rus” from Vladivostok to Fushiki in Japan.

The way from Russia to Japan by ship is about 36 hours. The ferry MV “RUS” is a quiet, comfortable ship with two restaurants (only Russian cuisine) and a bar (very important). The length is 139,55 meters and the number of cabins is 114. The vessel was built in Szczecin, Poland in 1986. Each cabin is equipped with bathroom facilities (perfect after 3 days in the trans-Siberian-railway). The maximum capacity for passengers is 406.
Overall, the ship is not bad, it has a 70s feel with dark veneer paneling and orange carpets.

All of the people on the ship, about 300 in total were Russians, mainly men, going to buy some cars in Japan. It was quiet funny to see all those drunk car-sales-men-mafia-types hanging around at the bar in the late evening.

The ferry docked in Fushiki near Toyama in the morning and soon after, Japanese customs boarded the ship. We got a 3 month tourist-visa without a problem. Welcome to Japan. The port of Fushiki is situated 20 minutes from Takaoka. It takes about 4.5 hours to reach Tokyo from Takaoka by train.

If you are in Vladivostok and like a sea trip, it’s a good opportunity to take a ferry from Russia (Vladivostok) to Japan (Fushiki).

The price is around 39600 yen, witch is 360 dollars... It`s a lot cheaper than a flight form vladivostok to anywhere, and you will have a great experience, too! :-D
