Long Break from Workload: Pulau Perhentian Kecil, Malaysia

Last year, I remember well the date...it was June 17, when we went for a holiday to Pulau Perhentian, Small Island Beach to celebrate my 24th birthday! Nice!

What more could I ask for? Taking a break from our massive workload, we surrounded ourselves with the beach, cameras, and loved ones. It was a perfect birthday gift and getaway. For those of you who haven’t set foot over here yet, please do. Apply for a whole week off from work, pack your bags, and grant yourself a perfect getaway at the beach (Pulau Perhentian, Small Island Beach ).

Here is a bit of information about Pulau Perhentian. It is located in the South China Sea, 21km from the coast of Kuala Besut, Terengganu. A hundred years ago, a vessel sailing from the south coast of Peninsular Malaysia to Bangkok will stop by for a rest and take shelter on the island. They were ancient merchants carrying food, jewelry, etc. As the activities of merchants, sailors, and traders from the South of China Sea have taken place, the island became popular for being a ‘one-stop station’, these islands were eventually named as ‘Once Stop Island’ or ‘Pulau Perhentian’ in Malay language.

I went there for about 4 days and 3 nights. I started the journey to Pulau Perhentian by bus from Kuala Lumpur. The bus tickets (return) cost us about RM80.00. It’s quite cheap, the journey by bus took us about roughly about 8-10 hours. All I did in the bus was sleep until we reached Kuala Besut. From there, we took a boat to get to the main destination.

After less than an hour on a boat from the east coast of Malaysia, the laid-back atmosphere and the natural beauty of the Perhentian Islands immediately transported us to a different world. Crystal clear waters, white sand, untouched forests…the relaxed atmosphere and unspoiled charm was just perfect!

I did enjoy the beach and the holiday very much, that I quite forgot how hectic Kuala Lumpur was, I forgot how busy I was at my workplace. All I did was have fun take a nap on the sand beside the beach, enjoyed the view of the beautiful scenery and I was certainly amazed by how beautiful the sunset was.

This is the place that you should go to at least once. You will be moved by how beautiful the beach is. Not to forget, this is also the perfect place to bring your underwater camera and snap a lot of pictures with it. Pulau Perhentian, is a perfect place to rest your mind and body. A truly wonderful place that you guys should go to!
