The Voodoo Experience, Music in New Orleans

Held every year on Halloween weekend, City Park becomes home to the crazy costumed, music-loving festivalgoers. As far as music festivals go, the Voodoo Experience in New Orleans, Louisiana wasn't my all-time favorite, but it was a crazy fun time.

Every Halloween weekend, people from all around travel to City Park in New Orleans, Louisiana for the Voodoo Experience, an annual music festival. Being from Atlanta and loving music and traveling, I packed up my car full of friends and clothes for the weekend and drove the 9 hours. In my crew was a Louisiana local, who allowed us to stay at his home, so we got to do the festival on the cheap.

Having never been to New Orleans (or NOLA as I like to call it), I was quite excited to venture through town and to taste the Cajun cuisine. Luckily, the food area within the festival had many local favorites, including one of my new favorites -sigesi a crab cake covered in crawfish etouffee.

Unfortunately, I did not like how there was a lack of recycling, as well as the choice to fill up water bottles at fountains. Although this festival is not as “green” as I’d like it to be at times, it was still well put together and offered a plethora of different types of bands. The fact that it was on Halloween weekend made it better because it meant more extreme people watching, crazy costumes, and a hell of a good time in the French Quarter and other areas of the city.

Among the 2011 lineup, I saw Muse, Ozzy, Weezer, Drake, Metric, Florence and the Machine, Minus the Bear, Cage the Elephant, White Rabbits, The Whigs, DJ Quickie Mart, and Paul van Dyk, among others. All in all, I had quite a fun time and did it on the cheap. I can’t wait to go back and visit NOLA again!

yeah voodoo is always fun. But this past year was the first time in five years that I didn't go. If you go back next year, try the meat pies.

Nice article, I love voodoo fest! Although the spot on the map is wrong.
