Margate Ghost Town

The old sea side town of Margate has lots to offer to Lomographers from the quirky old town, a miserable high street, and various empty shops and buildings. It's quite spooky but also equally interesting especially if you're on the lookout for a unique Lomo location.

Dreamland is an old theme park with only half a ride still standing, a listed wooden rollercoaster. The Scenic Railway which was damaged in a fire in 2008, is still standing but with a huge chunk missing out of the middle.

The cinema is now closed and stands tall and shabby over the sea front. If you continue towards the train station from here, there is a wide alleyway with a shabby looking ‘Welcome to Dreamland’ sign and locked up fire exits.

If the residents of Arlington House don’t scare you too much, head around the corner to All Saints Avenue and climb up the concrete car park for a good view of the roller coaster.

You’ll find a miserable vibe across the sea front and up the high street with many empty buildings and interesting residents. A place which looks depressingly grey when it rains and not much better when the sun shines.

Although the nearby old town and harbour arm has begun to offer hope with vintage boutiques and cafes, Margate has a long way to go before success. Currently, the Turner Gallery is under construction and this has begun to bring some culture into the area.

Don’t forget to get on the Margate Sands, the area near the harbour arm with a pool is particularly interesting.

OMG, it's like some horrible time warp, I cannot believe the joke shop and the hamburger place are still there, it doesn't look like it's changed in well... a few decades lets say! Is the 'Looping Star' now the listed roller coaster? it was always a bit grim buts what any seaside place is like off season lets hope the influx of 'culture' helps in the future!
