Lots of photos and a short writeup about one of the most popular beaches in Malta. If you've ever been to Malta in the summer season, it's highly likely that you took some of its sand back home in your shoe - and a lot of unforgettable memories to remember it by.

Back when I was still a student I used to spend my summers teaching English to teenagers just a couple of years younger than myself. I enjoyed it quite a bit and so did they. If you had to ask them what their favourite part of their two weeks in Malta was, they’ll tell you it was their teacher (obviously, cause it was me) – the beach would come in as a very close second.

The beach in question is Golden Bay, a generously lengthy expanse of sand on the Northwestern side of the island. As far as beaches in Malta go, Golden Bay is amongst the most popular (with both foreigners and Maltese) and it is hardly easy to find a place to lay your towel, especially after 10am on a Sunday. If like me, you’re not into crowded beaches I recommend popping by for a swim on a weekday – if, on the other hand, you want to socialise and make friends from other countries, Sunday is excellent because the beach is like the UN, only people aren’t wearing much and they might be drinking beer.

In winter, as one would expect, the bar is closed and the beach is deserted so you won’t be able to shoot brightly coloured umbrellas, lilos or your girlfriend in a bikini (unless you ask her nicely), what you will manage to shoot are some driftwood, lots of sand, and impeccable waves, which can turn out to be quite rewarding too if you ask me.
