After spending 17 hours and traversing one quarter around the globe, I finally set foot on Egypt's Cairo. This is my first trip to Africa so I wasted no time in documenting my trip through analogue photographs - especially the pyramids, definitely one of the highlights of my trip.
The Pyramids are a must-see when one goes to Egypt, and the most famous pyramids of all are located in the Giza Necropolis.
The Giza Necropolis stands on the Giza Plateau on the outskirts of Cairo, which is a 30-minute drive away. This complex of ancient monuments is mainly made up of the Pyramid of Khufu, Pyramid of Khafre, and Pyramid of Menkaure which are known as the Great Pyramids; and the Great Sphinx. These structures were built more than 4500 years ago and is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that are still in existence. Even the Great Wall of China is much younger than these pyramids. And the Pyramid of Khufu holds the title of being the World’s Tallest Building for about 4300 years before Paris’ Eiffel Tower was built in 1887.
Aside from visiting the pyramids, one can buy souvenirs from the vendors or experience the Egyptian lifestyle by taking a camel ride through the desert. Take some Lomo shots of those cute camels using your LC-A+.
For Lomographers, the Horizon is a must-have at the pyramids. I would also recommend using Redscale films to capture the charm of the desert. Egypt has 360 sunny days in a year, therefore you can use slow films that are below ISO 100 ratings.
Although the Giza Necropolis is situated in the suburbs, sudden gusts of wind might blow fine sand into your beloved camera therefore, please take the necessary precautions.
Lastly, while in Cairo, you should also visit the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities where the world-famous gold mask of Tutankhamun is on display. It is a pity that no photography is allowed inside the museum though.
