The Reichstag Dome

The 116-year-old Reichstag Building in Germany's capital city of Berlin, houses the country's lower house of parliament. It is a popular site among tourists and locals, however, it was closed to the public recently as a security precaution for any possible terrorist attack.

It was June 2010, spring had just came to an end and it was a drizzly morning with strong winds at the open space in front of the Reichstag. I was there, along with many others who were waiting in line to get into the Reichstag and see the famous glass dome. The line was actually quite a short one if you were to compare during the flock of tourists who visit during the summertime. I think there were actually less than 100 people in front of me, although I still spent two hours in line and IT WAS FREAKING FREEZING!

Anyway, I finally got into the Reichstag after a series of security checks at the entrance. I’m sure you’ve heard many stories about the Reichstag Dome already, so I’ll just let the pictures tell the story.:)

The most recent update on the Reichstag is that the German parliament decided to close the glass dome atop Berlin’s Reichstag to visitors due to a security alert that police should brace themselves for possible terrorist attacks. The decision was announced just last November 22.

The dome, which contains a spiral walkway from which tourists can enjoy a panoramic view of the German capital will be closed until further notice, the parliament said in a statement on its website.

Now I feel so fortunate to have been there at the right time! :D

It's such an amazing, surreal building. Was there during my holiday, but we didn't get in (time issue)!

A mysterious building is a photograph that is more impressive because of the red scale film.
