Once you see this city, you're sure to fall in love with it! Once you meet local people, you will definitely fall in love with them too. Once you taste the local cuisine... oh boy! Be careful as you might decide not want to leave Tbilisi ever!

This January we visited Georgia and we immediately fell in love with this welcoming and beautiful country.
When we left frosty Moscow, covered with snow, we didn’t know, that in a few hours we’ll find ourselves in warm and sunny Tbilisi, full of cozy, narrow streets, sun, vine and the most friendly people, i’ve ever met!!
We rented a small two-storeyed apartment in the so-called old city (old center) of Tbilisi and spent all the days walking around this beautiful city.

The capital of Georgia stands on the banks of the River Mtkvari, in a valley surrounded by hills. The best view of the city can be seen from the top of Mount Mtatsminda. The name for the city derives from the word tbili (warm) and it is true in the middle of winter the weather was warm and almost every day was sunny.
With its warm climate, stone houses built around vine-draped courtyards, and winding streets, the city has a lively, Mediterranean atmosphere which was even present during the Soviet period. The old city, spreading out from the south bank of the river, has numerous frescoed churches (the most noteworthy being the sixth-century Sioni Cathedral), 19th-century houses with arcaded open galleries on the upper floors, a castle and a surprising number of cafés and enticing tourist shops selling locally produced arts and crafts.

Please do not miss local restaurants!! The food is truly delicious! The only problem is, that your jeans tend to become very tight soon as you can not resist the desire to taste everything. You don’t have to go to expensive restaurants in Tbilisi, better ask someone from the locals: where do they like to go for dinner, and go there too. In Tbilisi (and i guess in other Georgian cities too) there is a number of very delicious family restaurants and this is the best place to taste the local food! Georgia is famous for its wine, but for a real finding was lemonade! mmmm… it is SO yummy!! But of course the wine was great too. Haha!

Returning to the sites of the city, i can mention the Narikala Fortress, first established by the Persians in the fourth century AD and most recently rebuilt in the 17th century, is a good vantage point for views over the old city. Visitors can still experiment with health-giving sulphur baths in a domed, oriental-style 19th-century bath house just north of the Metekhi Bridge.

Also we visited the open-air Museum of Ethnography, located in a western suburb, has interesting examples of rural buildings and artifacts. If you decide to go there, make sure, that weather is nice, cause rain will spoil your visit)) And take something tasty with you too, cause the museum is rich not only with different artifacts, but also with cats))

And of course, there is much more to see in this amazing city! I really hope, that I’ll have a chance to visit it one more time very soon!
