The Old Town Hall Tower in Prague holds one of the the oldest and most elaborate clocks ever built – the Astronomical Clock or Orloj, which you have probably heard of, as it is one of the city's most popular tourist attractions. I know the clock is amazing... but have you ever noticed the tower? Yes, today I’m not going to talk about the clock but rather the tower that hosts it and what you can do in there.

Six months ago, me and a couple of friends went to Prague and we fell in love with the city. The Old Town Hall Tower was one of the buildings that we liked most, not just because of the astonishing clock, but also because of the views that you get from up there. I enjoyed it even with -12 degrees celsius, my hands were about to fall but I couldn’t stop taking pictures!

The 69.5 meters high tower, built in 1338, is one of the most striking buildings in Prague.

In 1364 the tower was joined to a private house adjoining it, which was then knocked into other houses next to it. Due to these continuous expansions, the building is now a colorful collection of gothic and renaissance-style facades. This combination of buildings became known as the Old Town Hall.

For a fee, visitors can climb (or take the lift) to the top of the tower to experience breathtaking views over the Old Town Square and the rest of the Old Town.

If you’re ever in Prague, don’t just look at the clock like everybody else and wave at the guy with the trumpet (which you should do – I did it several times a day when I was there), but also go inside the tower and ask for a ticket, the views from up there will be worth every cent!
