When most people think of The Netherlands, they think of the partying associated with Amsterdam or the political centre that is The Hague. Directly between the two on the map you will find Leiden, known for it's student vibe, it's many canals, and the beautiful Dutch Architecture.
Leiden not only has a younger university feel to it that makes it fun for a younger crowd, but it also has tons of great historical sights : The Sint Pieterskerk (Saint Peter’s Church) a little out from the centre is where the Mayflower pilgrims went before heading to America, or the Leiden Burcht, the hill fortification where all the city stayed during the siege. No matter where you go there’s something interesting to look at – whether it be the windmills, the Flemish buildings, or one of the over a hundred poems painted on the walls all over the city.
