A Day at the Races - The Lomolocation that Could Make You a Profit!

Do you lack lomo-inspiration? Are you fed up with photographing the same streets, the same people? Are you feeling a bit short of cash? How about a lomolocation that offers rolling countryside, beautiful people, fast moving speedsters AND the chance to make a few quid? If so, it's time to hit the racecourse...(OK, OK, I admit it, you might well lose a few quid...but think of the fun you'll have)

Going racing is not only one of the best days out you can have, it’s a fantastic source of lomo inspiration, full of colour, action, people and excitement.

In Britain alone there 60 racecourses, from Ayr and Musselburgh up in Scotland, to Taunton and Brighton in the south and all points in between. Some courses, like York, Ascot, Cheltenham and Newmarket, have cool modern buildings, amazing facilities and host the most important races for the most expensive horses. At the other end of the scale, beautiful Cartmel in Cumbria, exists only for Bank Holiday meetings in May and August (although they still get 20,000 or more turn up to enjoy the fun).

Some courses, like Chester, are in the middle of the city, while some, like Ludlow or Goodwood, have incredible countryside views. What they all have in common is people, excitement and, of course, horses.

There’s plenty to do – you could go to the parade ring and size up the horses. Did that one wink at you as it walked past? Surely that’s a sign. People choose their horse for the name, the number, the colour. Or maybe you like the look of the person leading the horse round…hey, any system is a system.

Then you have to place your bet and find a good place to watch the race….there’s nothing quite like standing near the rail and feeling the ground shake as the horses get closer. And if you’re trying to take a picture at the same time, well it only adds to the excitement!

If you’ve never been racing, do yourself a favour and give it a try. Take the kids (if you have kids!) Take your friends. If you win, you could go shopping in the Lomography shop. And if you lose, well, who cares….the pictures will be worth it.

Love this location! I would like to go once to one of those races wearing my best suit and saying through the binoculars "GO STARSHIP (or any other name of a horse) GO!"
