The Istana (which means ‘Palace’ in Malay) is the official residence of the President of the Republic of Singapore. Built by the British colonial government in 1869 to house its governors, the Government house was renamed The Istana in 1959 when Singapore achieved self government.
Located on top of a hill over 100 acres of prime land along the bustling orchard Road, It is opened to the public on a few major public holidays. The parkland within which the Istana is sited is lush with magnificent tress and colourful shrubs. A 9-hole golf course, theme gardens and several smaller bungalows are co-located within the domain.
On 7 August 2010 ( just 2 days away from our National Day), a perfect sunny day as it was the Open House Day for The Istana. I took my trusty lomography Diana F+ and decided to document this wonderful and magnificent location!
