Klang Old Town

Klang town is located across the Klang river, both the north and south ends of the town are connected through bridges, where the Klang Old Town is located right at the south bank. Prior to year 1870, Klang was the Selangor state capital and administrative center, as well as the tin mining exportation center, until the British colonial government moved the administrative center to Kuala Lumpur.

Klang is located in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. It is a town by the Strait of Malacca, where it has rich seafood productions, and this strategic location makes it become a very important port in Malaysia.
Prior to year 1870, Klang was the Selangor state capital and administrative center, as well as the tin mining exportation center, until the British colonial government moved the administrative center to Kuala Lumpur.
One of the Royal Palaces of Selangor is located in Klang, where some of the Royal ceremonies are still being carried out here.
In addition, Klang is also famous of its local Chinese food “Bak Kut Teh”.

The Chinese here are mostly Hokkien descents, thus making Hokkien the most well-spoken dialect in Klang.
There are many historical old buildings in the Klang Old Town, including the old stores. Most of the old stores here are still opening for business, with only a few are abandoned. While for the Indian Street right next to the Klang Bridge, is a very lively street. This is a place where the local indians carry out their daily commercial activities, selling colourful fabrics, cakes, adornments and flowers.

The transportation system in Klang is very convenient. You could either drive to Klang from Kuala Lumpur, or find your way to Klang by public transport by taking a KTM train or bus. What welcomes you in the Klang Old Town are the beautiful old town views for lomography and the famous “Bak Kut Teh” and local Indian food!
