Balboa Island Ferry, Newport Beach

Nestled in one of Southern California’s most scenic harbors is the historic Balboa Island Ferry, connecting Balboa Island to the Balboa Peninsula since 1919. It's one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area, and with good reason!

Plying the bay between Balboa Island and the Balboa Peninsula, in Newport Beach California since the 1950’s is one of Newport Beach’s most popular and iconic attractions – the Balboa Island Ferry. The Admiral, the Commodore, and the Captain reach a top speed of 5 miles per hour in their less than 10 minute long journey loaded with three cars and up to 75 passengers. Each ferry travels over 3,200 miles every year, one thousand feet at a time.

If you are in the Newport harbor area, take a detour down to the island or the peninsula and spend the $2 for car and driver, or $1 if you are on foot, and enjoy a trip to a local landmark. Have your camera (why bring just one, bring several, I do) loaded and enjoy the ride.
